If you want to maximize battery life, turn everything off that’s not really necessary.
- Turn off Bluetooth
- Turn off 3G
- Turn off Push data
- Fetch new data manually
- Turn off Wi-Fi “Ask to Join Networks”
- Turn off Wi-Fi if you are taking photos outside and using the GPS recording mode
Note that Airplane Mode turns off all radios (including GPS).
